TPIB - Episode 1130.jpg

This is our passion project for 2018: to document the passion of others. To eschew the negativity about our state and start telling positive and inspiriting stories about the people of WV. Because you are awesome.

Kickstarter campaign launching soon!

“The Place I Belong” will be a short documentary film series shot in West Virginia. The purpose of the series will be to find artisans who are doing interesting things across our beautiful state and to create an intimate portrait about them and their work. The aim will be to document their story, struggles, and the passion that drives them to be artisans in a world that increasingly makes their efforts seem anachronistic. Our uncensored and intimate portrait into the lives of our subjects will strive to promote values like hard work, authenticity, and creativity — all of which we believe to be defining characteristics of Appalachia. The series will debut on its own website in the summer. On the website, viewers will be presented with a map of West Virginia where they can hover over areas where we’ve made a film to discover the stories of our chosen subjects. There also exists a potential to submit the films to film festivals all over the world, as the films will be shot with very high production standards by skilled filmmakers. West Virginia is a beautiful state with countless fascinating stories to tell. It’s our sincere desire that this series will help to counter some of the negative press that the state receives, and that it will inspire an emerging generation of West Virginians to go after their dreams— even if the prospect of doing so can seem pretty scary.

About the Creators

Mountain Craft Productions is an award-winning film and video production company based in Fairmont and Scott Depot, West Virginia. The company was founded five years ago by Ben Berry but was transitioned into a partnership in April 2016 when director of photography and colorist, Justin Litton, was welcomed onboard. Our work has been mostly commercial, however our focus has started to shift and we are becoming more interested in working in the non-profit sector. Since we are a for-profit company, we have obtained a fiscal sponsorship for this project.

Justin Litton

has a BS in Communications from West Virginia State University and an MA in Film Cinematography from Leeds Beckett University. His short films have toured the world and, most notably, a short comedy he lensed in 2012 screened in hundreds of venues after winning a Royal Television Society Award and the coveted Student Academy Award.

Ben Berry

has a BA in Filmmaking from Full Sail University and is the creator of Mountain Craft Productions. Ben’s fresh perspectives and willingness to go the extra mile in his relationship building and development of social media strategies helped earn him Fairmont’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2015.

We Need Help!
